Some outside the box ways to counter range runners/kiting

Low cut/High ammunition/Low weight throwing/Zero Difficulty
Something that does low damage that you can throw at the archers when they are simply running away. It should be zero
difficulty so that you dont need to spend wpf to detract from your precious 2h builds. Or maybe 10 wpf? You're the item
balancers you figure it out. If this already exists buff it so more people use it.

Buff athletics
Highly controversial in implementation. This is more for when getting shot at and running at the archer. If you increase
athletics, we move faster, and that silly dance we do to avoid arrows is much more effective. Most archers (because of the
nerf) are more strength based since balanced archery does no damage. If you make a big gap between 5 and 6 athletics it
              might help.

Buff shield speed
Right now you can start your animation as a 1h/shielder before a 2h and get spammed. Annoying. Wrong. Will never be buffed
             so why even mention it?

Also maybe some maps without those exploitative hard to reach areas. The ones where you have to jump up on stuff to get to. But at the same time this map will have to have some kind of cover so you don't get shot to bits. Open area maps are not the answer.

Reduce move speed penalty when right clicking with shield

I may agree on athletics. I think it could be adjusted to favour catching up with ranged, but i think we need a to set a certain level that balance goes by to stable tests. If minmaxed lvl 33 builds are to be considered as the base for the balance then 21-24 athl would probably be the one to balance around. It would almost unavoidably hurt plated strength bois though, unless some ironflesh change could possible even it out a bit without allowing ranged to reach that point viably.

The only way to buff athletics without breaking the fragile melee balance would be to only increase its effect on the max running speed of your character, not the acceleration. This way once you're up to speed you can more easily catch those pesky archers. However, in order to avoid buffing kiting ranged there would definitely need to be some further tweaking done, like not letting them drop their heavy ammo or something. Really I think the best thing to do would just let people move faster when carrying a shield.

That is a fair point increasing acceleration is NOT what I had in mind just the top speed.

However, I think the one that is easiest to implement is the buffing of running with a shield.

Only max speed I would buff is when holding block. You definitely don't want to buff athletics unless you want most of us to switch to a 15-27 or 15-30 build.

Making the throwing knives and shurikens 0 difficulty might help, but it could also cause a lot of grief to other melee players. I think it could work, but it would be risky knowing how spammy those things can be. (I'm thinking a group of 5-6 melee with these things).

Changed my mind on this one, I think I was wrong before. With 0 wpf and 0 PT, you won't do any damage to people over 42 armor and will deal a steady 10-15 damage to people without much armor. I think it will be a good idea to decrease the difficulty of throwing knives and 4 point shurikens to 0 difficulty. They will deal less damage to melee than large stones while being more effective against ranged (and lighter).
