Suggestions Corner / Old Kite Shield

I'm just wondering if it would make sense to lower the shield skill requirement for the old kite shield to 0. Obviously, the hit points and armor for it should be reduced to be more in line with other shields at level 0. I think that this would help more players carry a shield due to the coverage it offers. The only option is that Viking round shield (test) that weighs 10.0 units! It still leaves your legs open too...

Honestly, how much *shield skill* does someone need to hold up a rotting piece of wood to protect themselves from arrows.

General Discussion / What Kind of Maps Have You Liked the Best?

Hello, I was trying to think of more maps to make but frankly I'm out of ideas. So, I decided to hopefully get some good ideas from you guys. What has your favorite map style been? You can post about a specific map or just a general summary of a map you enjoy. I'm really hoping to get some good feedback about maps that have proven to be balanced and fun for all to play. You can even post about maps that were just plain fun for everyone but wasn't exactly balanced! Don't forget you can also post about maps you dislike as well.

Do you enjoy field maps which usually favor cavalry and ranged, but can be fun for infantry?

Do you favor village maps that have a good mix of balance depending on where you are in the map and how the map has been laid out?

I do understand that there is a lot of overlap between map types, but try to choose the ones that most appeal to you.

Suggestions Corner / Subjectively Better Vegetation Texture Pack

Alright, this is going to be a pretty short thread that is to the point. I like playing Warband without too many modifications, I'm a vanilla kind of guy. However, the one thing that bugged me was the overall tone of the game, it looked like a Disney film. However, when I downloaded mods like Darker Textures or Realistic Colors, they changed too much making the game look strange. So I took the textures I liked out of that mod and simply created this mod. I did not make any of the textures, I simply would like to share this simple mod with you guys.

It is a small mod, it only changes leaves, plants, and grass textures. Here are some screenshots of what it looks like that I quickly threw together. It's of one of my maps so it's not meant to show off the mod specifically.

Before downloading make sure to backup your Textures folder if you want to revert back to your old textures.

cRPG Technical problems / Logging into forums

I've had this problem for ages, but I've never really asked about it. I can only seem to log into the forums through the cRPG website while using Internet Explorer. When I do it through Firefox it doesn't log me into the forums so that I can post. So I'm stuck using the worst browser available and I have to use two browsers at once because I have all my bookmarks and the like on Firefox.

I also can't log in directly through the meleegaming forums because it always says my password is incorrect. This may have to do with changing my forum name from theleptonkid to Jarold. I also don't know the original password because of a weird problem. Long story short, my older brother actually registered for this mod and used my warband key to play and then stopped, then I took over ever since then. AND I can't ask him what it may have been because he died (RIP Rick), but YOU KNOW.

Any input would be appreciated.

Why are people never on, I mean damn! I remember it was booming like a month or two ago! Are we really gonna let the Chinese overtake us here?! I mean, wtf, even EU is butt fucking us in the player department! Are we gonna let some kebabs and rice balls just stomp on us? I'm on the website, says 45 people are on, get on game and woppy de fucking doo!!! They are all chn or eu servers! Not to mention I check in and I see guys with like 150-300 ping "playing", I can see you, just get on NA.

Also don't get on with you pure thrower build when the server is clinging to life because you feel entitled to play the game your way when in fact you are killing the server and you are just too much of a brat to use an alt or stf... Have at it though when the server is goin strong because I will hunt you down and no one will hear you scream as I rape you in the middle of the chaos.

TLDR; USA USA USA USA USA USA USA

I don't know why we have this ugly ass torch in the game, but thank God final_boss made a decent torch model. However, it was never added I guess. So i'm hoping that someone will see this and add it in next patch.

I just started playing this series, so far I think i'm nearing the end of chapter 2. I can only play for like an hour or so before my nerves can't handle anymore. I'm not scared actually, it's more like i'm stressed out the whole time making it only semi enjoyable.....so yeah I guess I might be scared...dunno. Besides being constantly stressed out however the story seems really interesting and spooky.

I think the games only going to get progressively more scary...I....HATE....SPACE!

I really like the Padded Cloth armor but it just wasn't strong enough, so I decided to make a model that would hopefully give it more protection. I think it may be silly to have padding on the outside and chainmail on the inside but...meh.

I'm not sure if my build is actually as good as I think it is so I need help.

Strength:      24
Agility:         15

Skill to attr:    8

Power Throw:     8
Power Strike:     5
Athletics:           5
Weapon Master: 5

Throwing:         130 (33 effective wpf with armor and PT)
Two Handed:       36

Heavy Bastard Sword
Throwing Spears


Do I actually have only 3 effective PT with my wpf or is it still 8 PT. Because if it's not I think i'd be better off going 21/18 with my build instead of playing with a horrible one.

Crossbows are simply too easy to just pick up and shoot with little skill investment. There needs to be a required skill for Crossbows besides just wpf. I know it's realistic but first we must make the game balanced then we can talk realism.


Taking out Crossbow WPF and putting in a Skill Requirement will solve this problem I think. Taking this skill will make you more accurate with your crossbow. I'll just call this skill "Steady Hands, or SH", and it will be governed by Agility. But before you get on me about it being governed by AGI therefore creating more kiting here's the second part to the idea.

Give all crossbows higher STR requirements. So that if you wanted to use a Heavy Crossbow you would need to have 18 str to use it. Therefore you couldn't get as much "SH" because you needed more strength making you less accurate but you would have a high damage output.

The Steady Hands skill i'm proposing should give you 30 wpf per level but it should be like the Horse Archery skill. So instead of every 3 points of AGI you will need 6 points of AGI to level up the skill. How much wpf you get per level is debatable and for now it's just there for a placeholder.

In short adding this skill and giving higher strength requirements for crossbows will make the high damage crossbows less accurate and the lower damaging crossbows more accurate. Giving you an obvious trade off of accuracy vs potential damage. It will also hopefully eliminate some of the kiting.




In reply to Grumbs comment I thought i'd post the little conversation here.
I think a lot of how xbows function is hardcoded, but if possible i'd just give them a difficulty like bows and use PD (maybe change the name of it to Ranged Acuity or something).
This doesn't change how it functions. It changes how accurate you are with a crossbow. It simply gives you crossbow wpf. Also changing a crossbow's STR requirement is easy.

I'm not saying you need SH to use a crossbow, but you will need it to be remotely accurate since it's the only way to get wpf in Crossbows.

I don't like the idea of something like a PD requirement, but a strength requirement I do like, with an optional skill requirement to be accurate. It makes sense to me because you need strength to pull the string back and then you will need a steady hand to keep your weapon stable and to actually hit someone.

You will still be able to pick up random crossbows this way but you won't really hit anything without luck or someone who's really close.
