Title: WoW
Post by: Joseph Porta on June 10, 2014, 11:32:01 AM
Anyone interested in playing a p-server with me? I prefer vanilla, but TBC is ok aswell. Anything further doesnt interest me.

I would like to get into it again - I used to enjoy it ALOT years ago.

If you want to play we can check out a server together, just hit me up on steam, my ID is Porta/ greatfatherwinter.

Cheers,

Hey, the only decent Vanilla server with enough population that's actually worth playing is https://www.wow-one.com/
And yeah, vanilla used to be real fun back in the day :)

Why poor guy? He had so much time, he spent over 170 days on that character to get him lvl 90 by picking up herbs and ore which gives about 25-30 xp. So he probably became the king of all of us!

I got to 60 on feenix. However, once you are there doing pre-raid shit, you will find out it wasn't that fun after all.

There is no limit to dots by the way. Used to be a limit of 16 dots, but since there are none, bosses kinda goes down instantly. Faceroll ez mode :(

Its definitely a lot easier compared to how it was in Vanilla, also because people that play there already know how to do all the bosses. I got myself up to 60 as well on a warlock and did some pug ZG, AQ20 and MC and it was pretty easy. Was fun to experience it again but my best memories from that time were when we defeated a boss for the first time and you just don't get that feeling replaying it. It's still fun to play it today but not nearly as much fun as it was back then.

Yeah exactly, and doing the same shit over again (MC & BWL oh the horrors) was dreadful. Best raids were C'thun and pretty much everything in Naxx 40.

Ally or horde by the way?

If people are interested we could get a guild up and running when Warlords of draenor is released. We'd all have to make characters on the same server etc but i think it could be worth it as the warlords of draenor has some potential as far as raiding goes. I recall hearing that they are going to buff upp all the old raids etc so there will be a lot of things to do.

Haha awesome I didnt get further then lord Geddon in Molten Core.. Did do bwl later on but I was merely a placeholder for an absent player. Best fun ive had progressing with a guild from step 1 - getting your pre raid gear etc, getting those bosses for the first time..

Oh yeah, you're playing on the newest server Emerald Dream with blizzlike leveling. I played on Warsong (12x xp or something, everything else blizzlike), just couldn't be arsed to level at 1x rates.

As for retail Vanilla, we downed a few bosses in Naxx, but AQ40 was the most fun for me.

i have a lvl 40 tauren warr( Pat, anyone?) on warsong, but it seems to be less populated then ED so I figured I might aswell make a char there. Its ok though, a slower lvling rate imo leaves for more casual stuff to do and im not a hardcore grinder anyway

Common knowledge back in the day was that Horde players were (mostly) more mature, grown-up, serious, better organized, in one word - normal folks while the Alliance were usually imbecile kids, trolls, morons, griefers, etc. So yes - cRPG WoW Guild should definitely be Alliance.

Hmm i heard the opposite actually, that ED's population is far bigger then the other two, plus its also the only server that has a queu every now and then.  Idk whats true, but I find plenty of dudes to kill quest objectives with.

But yeah, vanilla leveling is slow, but thats also one of its charms imo :P

TBC raids is the peak which humankind reached in online gaming history.
Vanilla had great atmosphere also.
Lich King was OK.
After that it sucked more and more...
New expansion is just there to milk old fans.

And about original guild wars. It was not even a real MMORPG. You can compare it to diablo 2 at best.

GW1 was so fucking good. Only MMO I ever liked. I didn't even play the PvE part more than a few hours, but I spent hundreds of hours PvPing because they let you have a max level character for PvP stuff and earn new skills by playing PvP. Good times.

That's the problem. I started to play fire at the end of TBC. I've tried PvE a little with both specs on this expansion and blizzard force mages to play frost. Probably fire should have the best items in each slot so it can actuallly dps.

PvP part is worse. Our pyroblast hits 40-45k max while ferals can hit 70k+/- with ferocious bite or i saw a warrior hitting 79k last  night.(Poor paladin couldn't bubble ) I'm really sad for frost mages while frostbolt hitting 20-25k max. I won't talk about diminishing returns

Which server are you on gnjus?

None yet. My ancient account was hacked, I got it back but I was forced to buy that authenticator thing and the usage of credit cards was blocked for me so I can't transfer my dwarven Paladin from Killrogg into a certain pvp realm where my old mate whom I met back in 2008 (or was it 2007 ?) is playing with some small Cro guild.  8-)
I recon I need to buy a new copy If I wanna play with him but there are certain problems.....I'm not sure it's worth the money, will I be able to play it long enough for it to pay off, also they're Horde and I'm an alliance pally fanboy......

Considering what to do atm......money is not the issue, the game market really sucks atm so WoW PvP is as good as any........if I can get a grip of it at all, after 5 years of inactivity and 4 years of cRPG.....  :?

Ye, its better getting into pvp right now, compared to late MoP. PvP gear is quickly gathered. If you participate in a random battleground you sometimes get a pvp item (which is most times not as good as those you can buy tho, but its nice if you need an item on that slot). PvE gear gets upgraded to 650, low pvp gear for honor is 660/675 only and the better gear for conquest points is 680+ I think, I didnt do much arena yet so Im not entirely sure about that point. I prefer battlegrounds.

And they removed some CC skills, so its more fun imo.

You start with honor items(blue) which are 620 ilvl but goes to 670 in bgs. Conquest items are 660.  I'm playing 2s arena at the moment. Soon we will start RBGs with my kebab guild.(Around 1.9k-2k in MoP) Hybrid classes are really strong nowadays. They are playing as dps but they never have mana problem because of healing.(Remember TBC where feral druids goes out of mana just cause of shapeshifting) It's kinda annoying. Ret. paladins, Feral druids,Shadow priests and Shamans. A friend of mine was saying ''i'm a death knight so i can queue as healer'' They nerfed the endless CC chain but not selfheals... I might reroll a hybrid class aswell...

So basically self-healing classes dominate the battlegrounds these days ? How is the pvp like ? In terms of combat, is it a mess or you can still distinguish who is doing what ? Overall balance of classes better or worse ?

Exactly, pure dps classes still works but you have to be tryhard. PvP is a bit more smoother compared to MoP. They lowered the number of skills and some skills are now spec wise. For example i don't have frost nova as a fire mage now. Balance is a bit fucked up but the expansion is still new. I'm sure it will change a lot. There is now ''Skirmish arena'' You can go in arena solo with a random teammate. I've tried few of them and there were always Hunter / Ret. Paladin / Feral druid.

Look at all the Hunters and Paladins. A bg from few days ago. You can see i have less skills compared to old days.

So....If I was to splash the cash on this shit again.....what kind of servers (and why) would you recommend for me ? I'm interested in PvP only, mostly Battlegrounds and maybe Arenas......and what about World PvP ? Is there anything like that ?
Title: Re: WoW

World PvP is kinda dead. Outland for alliance pvp and Stormscale for horde pvp.

Outland for alliance pvp and Stormscale for horde pvp.

Those are highly populated servers, If I'm not mistaken. I heard something about battlegrounds and arena's being connected in some way throughout all servers so it doesn't really matter on what realm you actually play, is that true ?

That was implemented in like 2007 or something

World PvP is kinda dead. Outland for alliance pvp and Stormscale for horde pvp.

Quote
Name           PvP      RP            Region   Time Zone   Alliance   Horde      A/H Ratio   Total

Outland           PvP    Normal   English   Europe/Paris   232,385   47,457   4.897   279,842
Stormscale   PvP    Normal   English   Europe/Paris   6,435   260,391   0.025   266,826

So what does it actually mean in terms of PvP if the World PvP is nonexistent ? Easy mode in battlegrounds for the zergling faction due to numbers and premades or just getting ganked in the open all the time if you join the heavily outnumbered faction ? Do these numbers even mean something if you don't count world pvp ?

Also: Casper Baggelund - what server are you on and are there any other cRPG folks actually playing beside you and this Turkling ?

One last question: a guy (near me) is selling a WoW account with all expansions, unused 90 boost and 7 months playing time (1 from the game + 6 from RAF awards) for 50 euros......how safe is it to buy accounts from other people and would you recommend it ? Wasn't there some troubles with that RAF game time ?
Title: Re: WoW
Post by: bagge on December 25, 2014, 12:33:02 PM
I wouldn't buy tbh. I'd just buy a new account and boost a character to 90 and go on from there.

But that's because I don't trust anyone :P

Greetings.

Anyone interested in this? https://en.nostalrius.org/

Apparently the biggest vanilla WoW server (5K+ people online!), with a great and active development team, blizzlike and no cash shop or 'donations' or anything. Getting a lot of praises from players/community. Hosted in Europe.

It launched 28.02.2015 and since it's blizzlike, content will be released gradually. The biggest problem with it (at least 1 month ago) was that there were too many people in starting zones :D

Anyway if anyone is up for it, say your prefered faction so we can play together or something.

The grind urgh. What happened to feenix?

The dreadful grind ;_;

Feenix is apparently going slowly downhill, population falling, corrupt and neglecting GMs/devs (some info here (http://www.reddit.com/r/wowservers/comments/2xs3tr/feenix_emerald_dream_or_nostalrius/)) and a whole lot of crap you hear of that server. Emerald Dream never really picked off to the population that Nostalrius has too (or even remotely close to it). It still stands but yeah.

I actually stumbled on Nostalrius by accident, I wanted to check up on Feenix again and Nostalrius was now the first result by googling WoW Vanilla. In either case Feenix was over for me when they randomly lost my character and they said they can't retrieve it unless I pay them real cash. Anyway, I started reading about Nostalrius and it's getting good reviews, and fresh servers are always nice since content at each level is being cleared. The only problem with fresh servers was the low amount of people, however that is not the case here. Nowadays people say go either Nostalrius or Kronos (Kronos has less people though).

I have no idea how Nostalrius got to these high player numbers, but I'm guessing a shit ton of people migrated from Feenix for being a bad pserver.

Think I'll go Horde this time, I'll probably PvP more than PvE (due to time constraints), Horde is usually better when it comes to PvP and dem racials.

"Need some extra gold? Try trading a WoW Token, a new in-game item that lets players exchange gold and game time between each other. To get started, buy a WoW Token from the in-game Shop for $20 USD and put it up for sale on the Auction House. Once another player buys it, collect your gold and get back to your adventures!"

"Coming soon to an Azeroth near you: the WoW Token, a new in-game item that allows players to simply and securely exchange gold and game time between each other.
Players will be able to purchase a WoW Token through the in-game Shop for real money, and then sell it on the Auction House for gold at the current market price. When a player buys a WoW Token from the Auction House for gold, the Token becomes Soulbound, and the player can then redeem it for 30 days of game time."

Looks like Blizzard figured out how to get $20 for a 30 day subscription instead of $15   :P

Playing on Alliance now with gnjus and cropunk, my nick is Presbitery. Alts: maldevious, amodren.

Gnjus is roleplaying a lecherous drunkard, drinking rum all the time and doing /sexy on NE females. We also make it a habit to /spit on almost every gnome we encounter.
We are lvl 30ish now just playing slowly experiencing all the dungeons and questing together whenever we can, so,  you wont have much trouble catching up if you grind your way solo.

We are currently a team of: Paladin tank, Priest, Mage. So if you, or anyone else wants to roll with us please roll a dps :D
Id like to have a dedicated 5man team for dung/pvp.

I didnt really find it that different for both factions having had 60s on both sides in vanilla retail. Azshara chain for horde is great though :D aanyway i might hop on alliance, cant decide which class. Dont want to play hunter again, so i might go with warlock which is still quite sought for raids. Kinda want faceroll leveling with a class that is still needed for raids. Was thinking mage at first but might be an overcrowded class
Title: Re: WoW
Post by: Gnjus on July 27, 2015, 04:51:57 PM
Nostalrius (from what we've seen so far):

A very populated server (-7000+ players in prime time), cca 50-50 Alliance vs Horde (http://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3641&hilit=horde+ratio&start=150#p112079), sometimes lags due to that many players but I think its better to have them all because its very easy to do things like elite quests, dungeons, etc (especially in prime time).
Mentality of players - Horde is much more helpful in world pvp on all levels but they're also the scum of Azeroth, always looking for an easy kill (waxing lower levels, ganking 2:1, etc, they even kill you right after you've helped them), while Alliance players just walk by you and watch you getting hammered and do nothing.....for that reason some Alliance players quit and re-roll Horde to join the nerdwave. Stranglethorn Vale, for example, is very hard for Allies to quest as Horde has a base with flight path in the middle of the map and they gank you all the time so having company during questing is a huge advantage, the 3 of us just kill everything that moves while on the run and it goes quite smooth. Soloing is much tougher. Horde is renown for lvl 60 no-life imbeciles who just pick an area to harass low level Allies that quest there. Also - when you kill a similar level horde player during your questing they often logout and come back with their lvl 60 main to haunt you, thats how pathetic they are.  8-)

Our main goal is to have some fun in all forms of pvp when we hit 60, hopefully we'll be able to get that. If not - well leveling is quite fun after all that time, especially in a group. All in all - World of Warcraft as it should've remained, much better than that crappy retail filled with robocops, aliens and transformers.

Apart from the slightly laggy experience at EU primetime, it's wonderful. It's BY FAR the most populated WoW (vanilla) private server, which I think in the private scene is very important, since low pop servers tend to die out fast. 7700 people online yesterday when I checked. Means you have enough people to get a group easily for pretty much everything and should be able to for a long time in the future as well.

I strongly recommend this Vanilla Guide Addon (http://www.wow-one.com/forum/topic/27148-ingame-leveling-guide-addon-for-alliance-1-60-with-waypoints/) for you who are leveling up. It helps a lot. Trust me, your leveling time will be reduced!

Quote
Me (Kirah) and cdlp on this forum decided to make Vanillaguide compatible with alliance and after few days of work we are finally done! We used Brian Kopps 1-60 alliance guide as a base and we included all waypoints for quests etc (works like Zygor). So enough babbling, here is Vanillaguide remade for Alliance :
http://www.mediafire.com/download/vqyl3ir3055uo0q/VanillaGuide+Ally.rar

You install it just like an ordinary addon. And in order for the waypoints to work you got to have Metamap+BWP installed, I've included it here http://www.mediafire.com/download/fhs5rl67152ab2e/EQL3+Metamap+WHDB.rar together with Extended Quest Log 3 and Wowhead database as a supplement for the guide. In order for the waypoints to show you have to enable metamap+bwp in the vanillaguide addon in it's settings if you press the cogwheel button. Enjoy!

This will guide you what quests to do, in which order, and where to quest. You'll have a small window in-game showing you step by step. Simply awesome!

btw I rerolled magus, "Tinnen" cause fuck melee on this delay lol

Title: Re: WoW
Post by: Vibe on August 20, 2015, 04:20:36 PM
Imo there isn't really that much lag or lagspikes lately, even in EU primetime. There's a slight delay yeah, but nothing that would really hamper you. It was much worse ~2 months ago or so. But yeah, PvE realm will further help with that, but more so about some zones being overcrowded, which is the bigger issue :p

Level 29 so far on my warlock, been taking it slow, leveling almost exclusively with rested xp so I don't have to grind in between :D

Quite a good article for Kotaku. The problem with Vanilla is that ain't nobody got time fo dat. It was nice when World of Warcraft got released and you were a high school kid with no job and woman to feast on your free time. But in my current situation Vanilla is too inconvenient, grindy and time consuming, I guess. Still fun though, and the nostalgia is strong. I'll continue leveling on Nost when I have more time.

I'm kinda scouting around for a server right now, just to mess around or maybe play seriously.

the new expansions don't interest me, not even WOTLK. I played 2.4.3 most in my private server time, but there's just no good TBC stuff right now. PlayTBC gonna release in months, so I thought about Vanilla, and..

holy shit Nostalrius has a crapton of players from what I've seen. I've never played vanilla though, but I see most of you played on this.

is it as good as it sounds?
Title: Re: WoW

is it as good as it sounds?

yes and no :D

Nostalrius is a good server, pretty much the best choice for a vanilla server. Having lots of people has both its advantages and drawbacks. You can find a group for everything but you will also have to fight for certain mobs with other people, and in PvP zones there's constant ganking. Also it's vanilla, a game I wouldn't consider had I not been the original vanilla player/fan back in the day (nostalgia strong). Then again it's free so why not give it a shot. If you do decide to play we're all on alliance, though I do not play atm. I think Gnjus and his company does though 8-)

Yeah TBC was a bit better for leveling than vanilla, vanilla just takes forever and is pretty grindy. You gotta stomach the leveling or enjoy it (but who is mad enough to enjoy that). The masses are nice to see though, usually private servers are pretty empty so this is wonderful to see.

I'm conflicted though. I like Blizzard, they've done great things with Diablo 3 since release and they're really listening to community with Overwatch. Jeff Kaplan is cool. I'm gonna blame this on the WoW part of Blizzard being fucking lazy for not opening a few vanilla servers.

That's because vanilla WoW is a vastly different game compared to current WoW. It's not that one is better than the other, it's just preference. Some loved how Vanilla did things.

Blizzard: Glad you could make it, Nostalrius.

Nostalrius: Watch your tone with me, Blizzard. You may have legal copyright power above me, but I'm still your superior as a popular legacy server.

Blizzard: As if I could forget. Listen, Nostalrius, there's something about the server you should know.
Blizzard: Oh no. It's too late. The Chinese are win-trading and the GM team are behind a gold scam. They may look fine now, but it's only a matter of time before they turn a profit.

Nostalrius: What?

Blizzard: This entire server must be purged.

Nostalrius: How can you even consider that? There's got to be some other way!

Blizzard: Damn it, Nostalrius. As your future legacy server provider, I order you to purge this server!

Nostalrius: You are not my legacy server provider yet, Blizzard. Nor would I obey that command even if you were!

Blizzard: Then I must consider this an act of copyright infringement.

Nostalrius: Copyright infringement? Have you lost your mind, Blizzard?

Blizzard: Have I? Nostalrius WoW server, by my right of intellectual property and sovereignty of the United States copyright laws, I hereby relieve you from your command and suspend your Game Masters from service.

Players: Blizzard, you can't just--

Blizzard: It's done! Those of you who have the will to play the Legion expansion, follow me. The rest of you... get out of my sight.

Nostalrius: You've just crossed a terrible threshold, Blizzard.

Blizzard: Players?

Players: I'm sorry, Blizzard. I can't watch you do this

Probably gonna start to play PlayTBC. Honestly, Burning Crusade was better than Vanilla. It wasn't too ruined but it still had some important needed features that vanilla didn't.

Tried WoW for the first time just a month ago (the 3 crappy trial days 7 years ago don´t count) with a friend just to have a look at the game (he was kind of like a tour guide, mate showed me around and told me everything about the lore, easter eggs, big community stuff that happened [f.e. how people sorta spreaded a desease which killed tons of NPCs], etc)

It might have been fun back then, but I can not overlook those dusty, dusty graphics nowadays, even the new models don´t help there (except for female draenae <3). I quit after reaching lvl40 and yeaaaah, I surely missed the good part: the raids. But the first 40 levels were so utterly easy and boring and I´ve heard that even PvP is super dull, so, yeh, guess I just tried it too late.

Dwarves = drunkards with scottish accent....what more can you want from a fantasy game ? I agree about Gnomes tho, I usually spit on them in the way as I think that anything shorter than a dwarf should never have been a playable race. You can imagine how many friends I make with my spitting roleplay and what kind of replies I get to read.

I think they'll raise the cap soon.....when folks move away from starting areas. Same goes for view distance, had to be lowered. They're adjusting world settings all the time and sending messages in red letters....quality job & feedback so far.

The thing with Kronos is.....its like the New Nost atm, tons of people on a fresh start, no level 60's to get ganked by.....no Chinese (yet)......queues start in the early afternoon when kids come home from school.

As Berenger said - its still not TBC but in case PlayTBC fails miserably and no new projects appear......this is the best you've got atm. Sad but true.

My favorite thing (and about the only reason I can push myself to level again in Vanilla even tho I said there's no chance for it ever again) is the fact that I can finally progress with the realm from the start and look forward to tons of horders & allies leveling in contested area which is far more interesting than being constantly ganked by idiotic undead rogue kids in Redridge or by zillions of scumbags in STV. It will be a slaughterhouse and I cant wait for it.  8-)

A lot of people want to play the old version due to it being way less casual. Also a LOT of nostalgia involved.

Just seems like a pretty gay way of announcing it from Blizzard. They made it out to be a huge deal when it's just a re-release of something they've already made. HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT AT THIS YEARS BLIZZCON! WE DO SOMETHING THATS ZERO EFFORT FROM US! HERE ARE LAUNCH TRAILERS LIKE ITS A NEW GAME!

Should've just announced online they're releasing some servers running vanilla WoW.

But I guess this is the age of Skyrim Remastered, and they would've needed an actual cool new project to announce at Blizzcon otherwise.

I guess it seems like that to you, but you'd honestly have to follow the whole WoW scene and the vanilla fanboys to really understand the hype. They've been asking Blizzard for a looong time for this and there was pretty much zero signs that they actually plan to do this, to the point they said it's not technically feasible for them.

How is it more casual, though? More skillbased? Because there are more skills to use?

Vanilla is less casual. It's just more time consuming in general. MMOs aren't really skill based tbh. There's a bit more bloat with skills, but the big differences are that leveling to max in vanilla took quite some time, if you pulled too many mobs at a time you were dead, classes were more specialized with some harder to level. Retail (current version WoW) every class can pretty much do everything and you can pull mobs in masses and not die. For the endgame, vanilla had a clear gear progression path you needed to go through to be able to join higher tier raids, so again took more time if you wanted to raid at top, current WoW every patch there's a soft gear reset. PvP max ranks were only for nolifers or shared accounts. Stuff like this.
Title: Re: WoW
Post by: Asheram on November 04, 2017, 10:56:36 PM
Not my words but well written.

"Great, they are going to make Classic servers, but the question is, how Vanilla will they be?  Put another way, what ruleset version will they launch with, one from Jan 2005, when the Molten core was the only raid, or from Oct 2006 when players were fighting their way towards the 4 horseman.

So much happened between those two dates.  The battlegrounds were added, along with entire zones like Silithus. there was the world event to open the gates to AQ40, and the difficulty of the 4 horseman to this day remains as one of the longest encounters to stand before being beaten. (7 weeks)

In vanilla WOW, shaman only existed on the Horde side, while Paladins were exclusively alliance, one factor which lead to people claiming Alliance had a huge raid advantage because of this.

So many changes during those two years, they really were a form of progression server all by themselves, so again, where should classic servers start, and should there be any progression as was done the first time around?

There will be temptation also to include features from later expansions, perhaps adding in Death Knights, or additional races such as Dark Elves.  Or since most raids were 40 man in Vanilla, (there was AQ20 ) will there be any temptation to add in some of the 25 or 10 man raids from BC or other expansions? Will they add convenience tools such as dungeon or raid finders?

When the DAOC classic server team ran their first iteration, they originally started with a baseline 2002 version, but they started adding in convenience features, realm abilities and even classes from later releases.  They even created their own new content zone with totally new rewards and skills from it.

Eventually they decided these changes diluted the "classic" feel of DAOC, and was causing a number of challenges in trying to upgrade to the SI expansion. (Will Blizz ever want to progress the classic, servers, a question for a different thread I think.)

So they eventually shut down the server for two years, and when they rolled out again, it was version 1.69 in it's purest form, which was great, but even then withing 6 months they started making a "few" changes to make more Battlegrounds available earlier and provide players with more rewards from PVPing.

It will be very interesting to see what decisions Blizzard makes in deciding exactly how true to their roots this version stays, because as others have noted, it will get stale pretty quickly if they launch a single point version and then let it stay stagnant on that single point in time.   In the DAOC classic servers, it started out strong with a packed 4000 person server, by July fewer than 500 were online at any one time during US hours."

Yeah, so many questions how they plan to run this. I'd love to see some QoL changes from the current version, but people are going to explode with rage if it isn't pure vanilla.
Title: Re: WoW
Post by: Gravoth_iii on November 05, 2017, 01:03:16 AM
Vanilla is pure, no QoL. It isnt completely balanced, but all classes seem to have their own uses. It's as espected, more like a classic mmo where classes perform very specific roles. As far as individual gameplay goes, its much simpler but a bit rough edged. It's harder in the sense of preparation and group effort, but individually most classes seem rather easy (tanking and healing could be different tho, im not sure). QoL is probably the largest factor of killing the vanilla experience, QoL ruins the adventure feel. I can accept Graphical updates (tho id prefer none) and achievements. Bug fixes could be nice depending on what it would affect, and maybe just maybe som class balance to make some of them slightly more viable. But the best would be no changes, and maybe release it with molten core and then naxx after X amount of time.

The main draws of it is just that it forces a social aspect much more than other mmos these days. As you level you will interract and do things in groups with randoms, if only to survive pvp or to finish areas up quicker or to be able to even beat quests since they can be tough.

I prefer the simple combat and slower pacing much more that current versions. It feels exhausting and not very rewarding to keep track of 10+ skills constantly in fast successions, interesting concepts but i just cant get into them.

Ive not raided in vanilla, ive only leveld to 40 or something on private servers not too long ago, but as others also have, i quit due to the risk of it being wiped since its not really official. I know tons of people going back now to vanilla once its releasing, so theres a large hope for it. At least within our clan we are pretty stoked.
Title: Re: WoW
Post by: Vibe on November 05, 2017, 02:50:44 AM
Vanilla was pretty easy in general, the only hard thing about it is that it's time consuming. Raid boss mechanics have gotten pretty complex in current versions, that wasn't the case back then. That doesn't mean the raids weren't fun though, but they definitely were far more basic and more often than not, simple gear checks. Hardest part was getting 40 geared people to do what you want them to do, but that was back in the day when it wasn't that obvious for people to wiki boss mechanics and shit. We still made it a couple of bosses into Naxx in retail vanilla, which wasn't bad at all - most guilds didn't even reach Naxx or even AQ40 before TBC released.

I'm glad I didn't invest much time into any of the private servers, what a bunch of scum running these. Then again I probably wouldn't have made it to 60 even if I wanted to, leveling is so absolutely boring in vanilla, especially if you've done it 3x+ times before...

So the next expansion is giving 6 more char slots per server wonder if vanilla will have the same amount of slots too. Also I wonder if this classic server will open up the possibility for vanilla to be on consoles with less skills to manage.
Title: Re: WoW

It will be interesting to see if they do implement any sort of new things into vanilla. Its such a thin barrier that if they decide they can change one thing, so many other things could also be changed ultimately destroying it.

Im considering if the wow tokens would be good, its a pretty good counter to gold sellers, and i wouldnt mind being able to use my gold for more playtime rather than my real life moolah.

Original 40 man raids were pretty great when I first played them. Hardcore too in the sense that they were very difficult and then once you beat the boss there were a couple of items of equipment for 40 people. Made for some thirsty nerds.

Have to vent some of the hype on Lights hope private server, apparently elysium scammed people or something so rip my shammy, but w/e. Making a priest now as i would probably not play them otherwise, but it could be fun. Shadow is supposedly pretty good for the levlings so im giving it a shot for now. Its very relaxing, i much prefer the pace it goes rather than retail.

Oh and supposedly BfA removes pvp servers, if thats true it seems like a very odd design choice.

All these private servers are ran by money hungry russian scum. Elysium, lights hope, all the same shit. LH is ran by a known gold seller who was mad that the big ely boys didnt let him in on the scam, so he blew the whistle and fucked shit up. Cant trust these kids at all. And with official vanilla coming up theres no reason to put any hope in them either.

http://liquidcode.org/~lostman/wow/dkeserver.se/stuff/angwe/

Angwe the legend, praise be. And now theyre removing pvp servers, just when you think wow couldnt fall any lower. Its so pathetic seeing people whine about dying in world pvp, blaming the game for their own mistake of picking the wrong realm as a kid. Ganking is core part to the game, its what builds hate for the other side and it also spawns counter gank fights. Even though world pvp is rather dead in retail, i still had some action.

Title: Re: WoW
Post by: Gravoth_iii on November 07, 2017, 08:05:05 PM
The option of playing pvp or pve servers is gone, instead you will be choosing to toggle pvp in main cities, and supposedly getting better rewards. But with the choice people will probably always just ditch it completely and level in safety untill they are max level. Ganking is gone, world pvp on lower levels is gone, interesting situations spawned from calling in guildies to fight is basically removed. It really is the final nail in the coffin for what wow used to be.

With the toggle it would be like playing Dark Souls with a trainer where you'd use the full health hotkey every time you almost die, ain't no one gonna PvP, it'll just be like duels lol

(not saying that you can turn it off mid combat)

If you mean Nostalrius, the first really massive vanilla server, blizzard sent them a CnD letter then Nostalrius themselves decided to stop. It is in part this event that is responsible for us getting official ones now.

They are getting rid of pvp? What the fuck that was 95% of the fun...

Also lol Angwe does seem like a legend. That is some quality salt farming.
They are making it toggleable, getting rid of pve only and pvp only servers.

Wrath had an amazing ost, im listening to vanilla tbc and wotlk OST while working, its sweet.

Preparing all the gold for riding, thinking only the mount summon would be free, yet they both were. Paladins truly are blessed by the light. Getting the mount is too good. Also stole the herods shoulder from a tank, they seemed mildly pissed considering i was the healer. Gotta have levling gear too! (previous shoulders were plain worse with no healing stats so i took the douche route being bored of never getting any drops)

Redridge on this realm is hell, any guild i join constantly complain about tons of highlevels ganking in redridge. Not to mention the times i went afk in the inn and came back with everything dead in the town. I love seeing people whine so much tho, good times.

Yeah the pure unregulated rampaging in redridge was the best. I tended to always play classes with stealth which was obviously a huge advantage on pvp realms.

Will there be no classic pvp realms when they finally done launch the classic version?

Lots of discussions on what will be changed and not. Safest card is not to change anything, but what patch should they launch it at then? There will definitely be pvp realms and such, but i dont think the graphical updates will be forced on people. Theres a large chance of them adding moneymakers like tokens and realm changes.

They are getting rid of pvp and pve realms in main game and making it a toggle you don't think they will do the same on classic?

From what I understand you toggle before leaving town and game puts you with others who toggled the same as you, so yeah no more ganking.

They definitely wont do it on classic lol. They want players to play it after all. Just like they wont implement LFR/LFD. Or like i mentioned, if they do no one will play it. Like actually no one.

If they are smart they will wait a long time before doing any sort of changes whatsoever. Balancing is so intricate that it might be well not to touch it at all.
Title: Re: WoW
Post by: Vibe on November 22, 2017, 09:19:59 AM
There's no way they'll introduce the new pvp toggling for vanilla, this is too hardcore of a change. I support the graphics update though.

Also Redridge and Stranglethorn Vietnam (as well as Plaguelands and Blackrock Mountain&around it) were quite pvp heavy on retail as well, but the current popular private servers have way too many people so it's hell to level there.

I'm planning on doing a 2h axe orc shaman for that PvP OP'ness but also considering a lock for the edgyness. How is pally? I heard its literally all autoattacks and you get bored to death just watching your char swing

Pally is also hell to level, but warrior is worse. Leveled one to 60 in retail Vanilla, it was horrible. Mage was much better. Hunter and lock are by far the easiest, because pets are stupidly strong and you can just pull like crazy and they'll tank everything while you afk behind it and throw a skill here and there. Shadow Priest afaik is good because of the regen talent.

So Light's hope opened a new realm, Northdale, and im in on it again. Pretty fresh (a week or so since opening), and we are abouts lvl 22-25. Testing out druid (nelf) this time around and im thoroughly enjoying it, tho endgame may be hard i still have some gimmicks to go by for raid spots. I really like the initial leveling rush in vanilla, i would hope classic could pull off some kind of ladder system with new realms opening semi regularly. Would be healthy for replayability/long term population i believe. Seeing so many people do the same early areas, and getting insane pvp in contested areas with nearly no high levels is great. I tried kronos 3 for a bit with a warlock, and man lock is just insanely easy to level it actually got boring to me. I also noticed that i much prefer alliance leveling in vanilla, the quests and areas are more enjoyable and diverse.

Classic got some news updates which is promising overall. They are making it more optimised and making abilities more workable. No changes meme is good, but there are some things that i would at least agree on as improvements, like render distance being bigger for environments. The fog is a turd that i could live without.

My friend also got 60 on K3 and migrated with his guild onto ND. Alliance too huh, thats good will add once i get home this weekend. We've pushed as hard as possible for a group of 3 to do, lvl 38 now and just got Lokseys stick from sm lib, time to grind beasts bois. Need that skinning, and leatherworking 255 for lvl 40 druid helm. Not even half way to mount money tho, and my pvp rank was like 5% off rank 3 so rip discount. I was surprised that i didnt reach it, we have been slaughtering hordies everywhere, even more so after rank drops

Hit 58 today, did a BRD quest run which is nutty, ive never done it with all quests in a sweep and theres just so much to consider and shit respawns mid way through etc. Took like 4 hours and we didnt manage to get through the midget army room where they respawn at crazy rates. We just didnt have the levels, aggro ranges got us every time and all those dwarves were ranged so LoS'ing wasnt going to happen. Oh well, stuff left for lava runs i suppose, still need a lot of drops from the last boss.

I mean it's kinda normal if you fuck around and you say you had a lot of HKs so it's understandable. Leveling professions stalls that even more. Everything in vanilla is very time consuming. I remember many BRD runs, absolutely brutal time investement for a mediocre dungeon (but one that was necessary for so many attunement and other quests).

Gonna give BfA a try myself when it comes, I've been forced to casuality by my time constraints. Though I might try classic servers when the official ones come. I've tried so many private servers over the years and don't want to invest the massive amounts of time that vanilla requires when there's a good chance that one of the scummy people that run these servers will fuck shit up over night.

BRD has some really good loot tho, and there are "lava runs" that use a different path to get to the last bosses quickly, all of which drop some good shit, especially the last boss with that juicy Ironfoe.

Honestly, i was slightly interested in BfA at first just like i am with every expansion release. But playing classic it just feels like theres nothing to go there for. Even casually i think classic could be very enjoyable, the dangerous part is how addictive it is so that you really just play it a bit more than you should. I guess by that logic BfA would still be a good choice cause you get probably get bored quickly.

"Retail is alot better though. - They removed the annoying features, like community, proffessions, economy and leveling." made me giggle, found on the lights hope discord.

Started playing retail recently after like a 12 year break, definitely isn't the game I remember, but PvP with some old friends has been fun despite me being garbage. It's nice having 20 ping too, don't think I'll ever be able to go back to an MMO that doesn't have an Aus server now.

Getting close to lvl 70 with under 24 hours played time, feels very fast to level, which is kinda nice when you can only play a couple hours here and there throughout the week and occasionally sperg out over weekends. Getting almost a full bar with a single BG victory.

Yeah leveling is fast in retail, even though theres (soon to be) 120 levels. WoW nowadays is great for casual play and if you decide to go a bit more hardcore at endgame, there's always ranked pvp and mythic raids/mythic+ dungeons for pve.

Honestly, after a 12 year break WoW should feel like a completely new game. I know it did for me, and I "only" took break from Wrath of the Lich King expansion until Legion expansion.

I never really understood the immense amount of no-lifing required to become rank 14. Reaching rank 14 was legit absolutely insane. I can't remember more than a very small amount of people reaching it per server (and I was on one of the more progressed/hardcore servers). IIRC, the PvP honor system had a decay every week (a percent of your max earned honor) and reaching the higher ranks was always based on how much honor other people grinded, and only a certain % of top honor earners could rank up (10+).

So imagine having to fight like a 20% honor decay AND outgrinding everyone else on the server to be the top honor earner in a given week, for multiple weeks in a row, so forget taking a week break or something, no way to freeze it. 16 hours a day for 5 days a week for 3 months is not an exaggeration by any means. That is what it actually took to reach rank 14. Lots of people actually shared their account they were trying to rank up so the character could be in pvp 24/7 more or less. It's a shame because it had little to do with skill, just pure grind.

The twitch vod i talked about is on youtube now,

A ton of information. They mention how in retail wow every class basically has everything covered as far as different skill effects go, but in vanilla every class is quite unique but lacks quite a lot of things others have. Engineering specifically but also other consumables bridge this gap quite well which is an interesting design. A bit unfortunate to be forced into having engineering perhaps, but theres a lot of fun gadgets and stuff, i really dont mind. Ditched skinning for it now, while keeping leatherworking around for a bit. Utilizing every aspect of the game makes you win, you really have a ton of stuff at your disposal if you choose to dig deeper for it.

One of the more interesting points is how Skull of impending doom (https://classicdb.ch/?item=4984) is basically essential, because being able to damage yourself to break CC is way too good to not utilize.

Another is how when pre-mades clash, the difference between the factions is that alliance plays on survival and outlasting the horde, while horde goes for huge burst generally.

True, vanilla was based a lot more on dependance between different classes, you needed class x to do one thing and class y to do another. But because of this it was also way more restrictive (feral druids in raids? paladin dps? lol get out). Retail loses some of that uniqueness in classes to provide far better balance. Vanilla and retail are basically different games for different tastes.

Ferals can actually DPS rather well up till naxx at least from what ive heard (through powershifting). Oomkin is semi-trash but that 3% crit buff is good for mages. Paladin dps is subpar but you can get by if you try hard with it. Obviously there are peak min max comps but the stigma that certain classes just dont cut it for raids is a meme now more than reality cause people can just blast through raids even with the 8 debuff slot patch. 16 debuff slot patch with world buffs? bring whatever wants to come!

Lots of things have changed since the actual vanilla times. I always thought you needed fire resist for MC but thats completely out of the window now.

Oh yeah I know, I was just saying how it used to be. People know raids like the back of their hand now, vanilla has been dissected thoroughly so I imagine it's not that hard to get into raids with subpar specializations.

Blizzcon is on, and there will be a demo for wow classic around 6 hours from the time i post this, lasting a week i think. Ive heard it starts at lvl 15 in westfall/the barrens. Pretty hyped. I got to rank 8 just short of 9 on northdale before quitting.

Im still way hyped for classic, and wont mind leveling a druid again now that i know a lot more about the class and what items to get (mark of tyranny not blackhands breadth ya mong). Its easy to burn yourself out on classic though, gotta find more things to do than queue pvp lol. I was always excited in getting into world pvp, but i kept sitting comfortably in BG queues.

It is included in the retail sub, i just wonder if it has to be bought but i would assume no, at least if you own wow already.

Because its fun, and because modern mmos have strayed far from the roots.

^Personally im not opposed to minor changes like the mailbox convenience mentioned, or the loot being tradeable after picking up so that it can fix mistakes leaving customer support with less tasks of fixing such. I would very much like to see a OSRS style system of player polling for future ideas of changes.

Our first Nefarian kill. Struggled on Chromaggus before, but he changes from week to week and so it was easier this time around which allowed us to down Nef as well. Im dps druid, so i get a lot of gear quickly because many pieces are not shared by other classes. Going to probably try to snatch the Nef head next time though, gives a juicy ring. We run a DKP system so most people save their points for big weapon drops, meanwhile i got my weapon for minimum price and its bis, druid life <3

All these private servers are ran by money hungry russian scum. Elysium, lights hope, all the same shit. LH is ran by a known gold seller who was mad that the big ely boys didnt let him in on the scam, so he blew the whistle and fucked shit up. Cant trust these kids at all. And with official vanilla coming up theres no reason to put any hope in them either.

as foretold by my prophet galaxy brain in 2017

Insert 2 options meme; Play corrupt p servers, or have to wait until actual classic release.

So far it hasnt been so bad, one of our tanks got permad and was claiming innocence so we all got pissed. However it turned out he did actually buy gold LUL. Then we got like 2 or 3 more members banned for gold purchases. At least they are on point with that.

Best thing we have til actual classic.. AQ just released too, gotta practice it. One of the guilds got realm first C'Thun after like 1h20m of the gates opening, we still havent beaten the first boss

Hah, thats what you get when all the fights are already crunched down :D I was in the AQ40 race back when it was released, was really fun. My favourite vanilla raid.

Good shit. Sooner than I expected. Not sure if I'll dive into it on release due to my time constraints, but it is nice to see something that was a good part of my high school years come alive again.

Are there any confirmed changes in comparison to old school WoW?

Something about loot trading in dungeons if I recall.

The entire classic WoW thing just seems doomed from the start, even if it's good. Splitting up the playerbase and devs, and if they don't update at all there are going to be tons of annoyances and staleness, and if they do then it's not going to be classic WoW soon. Or are people just hoping to get a month or two of nostalgia out of it?

Well theyre using "layers" for the launch, so that a realm will have 3 layers with something like 3k people in each, that merges together after a month or so to make realms not die when the tourists leave, kind new i suppose but its nothing thats permanent.
Loot trading may be added, im not sure its confirmed yet. Making you able to trade raid loot after you recieve it for a certain amount of time to other raid members, just to clear up the issue of giving items to the wrong player, so its just to make it easier on the GM's.

Other than that not really, the schedule for patch releases is new i guess, for a month or so we wont have a pvp rank system or any battlegrounds so theres no incentive to pvp outside of just world pvp fuckery, which can be enjoyable on its own.

Laughs in OSRS. That one literally surpassed the new Runescape in playerbase. Split perhaps, but there are tons of people coming back for vanilla specifically. It takes about a month or so to get level 60 on a normal pace if im not mistaken, a bit more probably since the in game /played time is usually 11 days for 60. Progressing raid content takes a couple of months per, and it wont all be released at launch.

OSRS still adds content too, and people like it. Classic devs have not mentioned adding anything, but it wouldnt count it out depending on community input.

The reception of classic through the beta has been overwhelmingly positive so far.

(click to show/hide)

Amongst others. Mind you this is just the leveling, even people critical to the nostalgia of going back thinking it will be a slob and boring grind these days. Some of the major streamers who reached the current beta level cap (30) had some large ass battles happen at a high level are where they farm material for an incredibly strong warrior class quest weapon, which can be gotten at 30 but is on par with lvl 40 weapons.
https://www.twitch.tv/asmongold/clip/ViscousAbstemiousBatBloodTrail

Because the mobs are high level they need the groups/raids to even do the quest currently, and so of course, people will also want to come in and fight (especially when its the largest streamer getting the weapon). Its fun to watch even at a gimped max level 30, people find things to do. A duel tournament will be held soon, im thinking warriors will dominate with their insane weapon, but its really hard to tell.

Warriors are as spooky as their gear is, so quite likely warrior will dominate then

What's the draw of WoW for you? I've genuinely tried to understand it by watching streams, but the combat looks so dreadfully boring and obviously the graphics and the quests aren't exactly top-notch in 2019.

For me it's purely nostalgia and the fact that the MMO scene is pretty much dead at the moment. Whether that'll be enough for me to actually play Classic WoW, I don't know yet.

PVP/Raid endgame. As for leveling it is as with any other good RPG, it feels rewarding, like you are progressing as your character. I've never understood why graphics would matter, and while the combat is slow, you still need to make decisions and play safe unless you want to die and corpse run constantly. It often forces you to team up with people, which is fun. It feels like a world, and you get immersed quite quickly.

True, but without max talents im not sure how well they are geared towards CC. Warriors alone struggle with other classes, but warrior with pocket healers are gods. So in duels, im expecting casters like frost mages or perhaps warlocks, maybe even hunters to be winning.
