CD Projekt is making this game.

Really love Cyberpunk type of games, movies. (Bladerunner, Equilibrium, Deus Ex series etc..). And they say it's gonna be a completely OPEN-RPG type of game. No gameplay so far but the concept is promising. Plus Witcher 1-2 were good games so i have faith in this.

So, what do you guys think about it? Win or Fail?

Win.

I love cyberpunk. Also, you should read more cyberpunk, Berenger.

I was about to make a new thread. Berenger wtf? This isn't american game :?

Personally, can't wait. Have a huge hard-on for cyberpunk and steampunk games (Deus Ex ftw).

When it comes to books i tend to stay out of sci-fi and such lol. Dunno why. Sci-Fi are best as movies, series and games imo.

But that's just me but yeah. Looks great.

Hmmm well im playing witcher 2 atm, I was expected it to be greatly refined from witcher 1, but its still really bad game overall. I still like the graphics/setting/story, but the combat is awful spam left click and wait till enemies die. and the ui general mechanics of the game are still shoddy, I had 2 bugs preventing me from completing the tutorial. Yes I had to look up tutorials for the fucking tutorial. not worth my money even on steam sale.

so CD projecktkct are successful for making 2 bad games both adaptations of a someone elses successful books. they seem like cool guys for being anti drm, but I dont see any reason to be hyped about their next game, especially if its their own IP.

Well, you seem to be in a minority in considering their games bad. Although, I do agree. The combat in both games is not good. And this is based on Cyberpunk 2020 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk_2020)

Also, cRPG is left click and wait 'til enemies die aswell.

well i just completed it and i did enjoy it overall but I stand by what I said. if its based on something that gives me more hope.

yeah but in witcher enemies (even bosses) are stunned each time u hit them, once u land 1 hit you can follow up stun lock until they die, even vs multiple enemies since you are never stunned from damage yourself.

Witcher 1 was very repetitive but awesome. Witcher 2 was one of my favourite RPG's of all time and it's incredibly well made. Not to mention the massive updates they did to Witcher 2 months after release. The combat in any RPG is like that. Skyrim, Dragon Age, Witcher, none of them have complex combat systems but all are amazing games.

Seriously looking forward to this now.

I own both Witcher games and I just can't muster the motivation to play more of the first one (I had planned on playing through both) because of the constant running back and forth in that first town and the fact that it's so poorly optimized. I want to see if the story really is as great as I've heard but the pacing and design is a bit off-putting at the moment.

This one could be interesting though if it's true that they learned from the first Witcher when making the second and then even updated the second further and released it for free to people who owned it already.

skyrim may not have brilliant combat but its spectacular compared to witcher/dragon age which are basically auto attack rubbish.

I would say that Dragon Age has the most tactical combat but it's also party based.

Yeah Dragon Age Origins was fing hard even on normal. Required a lot of tactical play to kill a dragon. Main parts weren't so bad.

I hope they don't pussy out just because its a game, and they have proper cyberpunk themes. Drugs, dystopia, anti-heroes etc. The guys who did the Witcher can possibly pull it off, I especially liked how they handled morality (it was often morally ambiguous, it didn't necessarily have "good" and "bad" ways to do quests). I didn't especially like the gameplay though, and I ended up not getting that far into Witcher 1

Not too thrilled about the concept or styles shown by the trailer -- futuristic/cyber-punk/counter-culture is pretty cool but the main emphasis on this game is on implants and stuff which is pretty unbelievable IMO (gauges, piercings and tattoos are one thing but getting a whole limb replaced.. noway in hell do I see it evolving into that in the future). That said, I have mad respect for CD Projekt Red as not only put out one of the best RPGs ever in Witcher 2, but they showed incredible class by freely letting/encouraging people do whatever they want with their content in terms of mods and porting their stuff to other games.

I don't see why people here are so down on Witcher 2 and are comparing it to Skyrim and Dragon Age Origins because in my mind Witcher 2 completely blows any of those out of the water. The only great thing about Skyrim is its scope and how it's open world but in a lot of ways it limits it where more linear games like Witcher 2 or Dragon Age Origins are able to tell a richer and more immersive story. I also loved the gritty and more mature take Witcher 2 had on the high fantasy genre where the other two were really cheesy and generic in their approach. The tactical aspect of Dragon Age Origins (setting up your team using the birds eye thing and all the pre-combat conditionals) as well as how personal they were able to make the story with the character development and interactions stand on their own though.

Let's see. Do I want a superbrain that can crunch numbers or do any data related stuff 50 times faster than I would normally be able to? Hmm.. Yes, I think I do. Would look good on a resume. Whether it's a device connected to my brain, or literally attached to my brain or replaced my brain I don't really care.

I have no problem seeing implants become reality in the future. It'll start with giving disabled people limbs, and end with improving limbs on healthy people. And after that it's not such a long step to replace healthy limbs with augments. Whether it's by biological enhancements or mechanical, I can't say. The day implants for disabled are better than normal hands, I can easily see some people considering doing it if it's legal. The only downside with mechanical stuff is maintenance.

There's already been some controversy regarding if paralympic runners should be allowed in to Olympics, because they may have an unfair advantage over non-disabled runners.

mass effect is tactical/squad based but that game managed to have a decent combat system. I actually used to be a pretty huge bioware fan (at least pre EA), but DA was one of the worst rpg's ive ever played, definitely did not make it past 1 hours worth. i still cannot understand why i'm the only one who seems to hate it, the gameplay was really bad and the story was so cliche it could have been a parody.
Title: Re: Cyberpunk 2077 (Ones who made Witcher series)
Post by: Grumbs on January 16, 2013, 04:42:01 PM
You should give Dragon Age a proper chance. 1 hour is nothing. If you like Baldur's Gate type games its worth a play through. Its got character development, non-linear completion of quests (well you choose the order you complete stuff, or which quests to do), lots of dialogue, player choice with quests, the combat is semi tactical. I played as a dwarf so maybe my initial story was better than what you did. I went into DA expecting nothing but was pleasantly surprised. I expected another modern RPG without the RPG elements but its pretty oldschool really.

DA2 I never played, just heard all the negative stuff and that was enough to put me off

About this cyberpunk game.. I saw that they said people shouldn't expect anything until 2015 in the earliest so I will now try to forget all about it until then :D. I don't get hyped for games anymore

Mass Effect was essentially a third person shooter, at least with my play style I found nothing tactical about it. Dragon Age tactics were pretty much the same as any party-based ARPG, keep the mage in back, tank in the front and a bit of variation in roles but it boiled down to focus firing with a few positional skills.

Skyrim looks nice and was absorbing until I realized aside from the need to think even less about builds and strategies it followed the same formula as all the other games but while being even less creative and more recyclable.

"If you're following news related to CD Projekt Red, you might have recently stumbled on information regarding morale here at the studio. We'd normally avoid commenting on company reviews on spaces like Glassdoor, but this around--especially in light of the fact that we haven't communicated anything about Cyberpunk 2077 for a long time and saw some gamers getting worried about the project--we'd like to elaborate on a few things.

First off, we'd like to talk about the departures. In 2015, when we released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we were over 200 developers strong and that was the core crew of the studio. Since then, we've almost doubled the headcount and we're still hiring. Do people leave? Sure they do. We always wish them all the best and respect both their decision and the feedback they give us as the reason for their departure. We are continuously working on making Red a good workplace for everyone, but we also have a set of values that constitutes who we are and how we do things.

So, does a departure, even a high profile one, mean that the project is in danger? One would need to be very courageous to base the future of an AAA role-playing game of such scope on one person (or a few people).

Every role-playing game we ever developed seemed impossible to achieve at the moment we set out to create it. It took us five years to finish The Witcher 1, we had to make our own engine to complete The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, and we had to entirely reinvent the way we made games to deliver an open world for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. When we start down the road to creating something, we know the destination and we're sure of one thing: even if something feels impossible, it doesn't mean it is. And, as it turns out, most often things are perfectly possible, they just require a lot of faith, commitment, and spirit.

This approach to making games is not for everyone. It often requires a conscious effort to 'reinvent the wheel'--even if you personally think it already works like a charm. But you know what? We believe reinventing that wheel every friggin' time is what makes a better game. It's what creates innovation and makes it possible for us to say we've worked really hard on something, and we think it's worth your hard-earned cash. If you make games with a 'close enough is good enough' attitude, you end up in a comfort zone, And you know what the magic happens.

Cyberpunk 2077 is progressing as planned, but we are taking our time--in this case, silence is the cost of making a great game.

As always, many thanks for being so engaged in what we do. It shows us it's all worth the hours we put in.

Yours, Marcin Iwinski (co-founder) / Adam Badowski (studio head)"

High hopes for CP. The fact that they made Witcher 3 with 200 devs (or, rather, with many less devs than 200, since that's what their head count was when it was finished) and have ~400 now, is very promising considering what they achieved with TW3.

And also the fact that unlike every triple A studio, they improve by leaps and bounds with each game they release.

I've been replaying Witcher 3 and I really appreciate Geralt. Like Feminist Frequency complained, he's a patriarch of the Toxic Masculinity clan. He doesn't break down crying at every single thing, he's laconic, and doesn't get emotional every five seconds.  http://i.imgur.com/NBgYSGc.gif

I really hope Cyberpunk follows in the same roots. Good chance for that I guess, since CDPR is from eastern Europe and is so filthy rich they don't need to bow down to anyone. They're of course very interested in making empowered powerful female characters too as TW3 shows, but at least it doesn't feel like an agenda is being pushed down your throat.

And alot of Blade Runner.

The old one or the recent one? I watched the old one and was so underwhelmed at the constant symbolism and slow pace. I really dont remember why I liked it when I watched it hundreds of years before.
The story telling and atmosphere is great though, and paved the way for more dark sci-fi. Best sci-fi.

Imo the old one definitely just didn't age all that well, and was probably overrated due to the amazing visuals and world/atmosphere that it introduced. The new one is legitimately good and stands on its own pretty well.

Blade Runner is an experience just like Ghost in the Shell, japanese ripoff of Blade Runner. Slow pace and visual porn combined with excellent background music is trademark of the movie. Just like it in GitS.

It aged amazingly well imho, I watched it last year and was hooked just like the first time I've seen it. New one I haven't seen yet.

As for Cyberpunk, it needs to come close to Deus Ex as possible. Doubt it will, despite 80s cyberpunk being silly today Deus Ex manage to be relevant in this day and age. While newer ones are like similar newer works in cyberpunk genre, downright silly.

They just opened a new studio for cyberpunk 2077.

http://en.cdprojektred.com/news/introducing-cd-projekt-red-wroclaw/

"Located in the city of Wrocław, south-western Poland, the new studio will join forces with CD PROJEKT RED Warsaw and Cracow, and bolster development of Cyberpunk 2077 — the upcoming futuristic AAA role-playing game"

Nice, shits happening. Have high hopes for this game though I don't really care for cyberpunk genre / theme.

Probably not a very good sign for its release date, though. Takes time to set up a new studio.

"Consisting of 18 talented industry veterans, Wrocław-based developer, Strange New Things, will form the core of the new studio." I think the studio is already set up they just need to shift gears from what they used to work on.

from CDPR
"It's been over 2077 days since we announced our plan to develop Cyberpunk 2077. We released a CGI trailer, gave some interviews and... went dark. Normal procedure for these kinds of things - you announce a game and then shut up, roll up your sleeves, and go to work. We wanted to give you The Witcher 3 and both expansions first, which is why this period of staying silent was longer than we planned. Sorry for that.

As soon as we concluded work on Blood and Wine, we were able to go full speed ahead with CP2077's pre-production. But we chose to remain silent. Why? At some point, we made a decision to resume talking about the game only when we have something to show. Something meaningful and substantial. This is because we do realise you've been (im)patiently waiting for a very long time, and we wouldn't like anyone to feel that we're taking this for granted. On the contrary - it gives us a lot of extra motivation. The hype is real, so the sweat and tears need to be real, too
image: https://forums.mmorpg.com/resources/emoji/smile.png

:).

But, to the point. Today is the day. If you're seeing this, it means you saw the trailer - our vision of Cyberpunk, an alternative version of the future where America is in pieces, megacorporations control all aspects of civilized life, and gangs rule the rest. And, while this world is full of adrenaline, don't let the car chase and guns mislead you. Cyberpunk 2077 is a true single player, story-driven RPG. You'll be able to create your own character and... well, you'll get to know the rest from what we show at our booth at E3. Be on the lookout for the previews!

Before we finish, you probably have some questions,

1. When?
When we told you we would only release the game when it's ready, we meant it. We're definitely much, much closer to a release date than we were back then
image: https://forums.mmorpg.com/resources/emoji/smile.png

:), but it's still not the time to confirm anything, so patience is still required. Quality is the only thing that drives us - it's the beauty of being an independent studio and your own publisher.

2. How big?
Seriously big, but... to be honest, we have no bloody clue at this point in time. Once we put it al together, we will openly tell you what you can expect. And we promise we'll do this before we start talking about any pre-orders or ask anything of you.

3. Free DLC / Expansions / DRM?
Expect nothing less than you got with The Witcher 3. As for DRM, CP2077 will be 100% DRM free on PC.

4. Microtransactions?
In a single player role-playing game? Are you nuts?

Once again, thank you for your patience. If you have a minute, do visit cyberpunk.net and share your opinion ( about anything with us. We read everything you post and we treat it very seriously.

Yours,
CD PROJEKT RED Team"

If it's anything like the Witcher then there'll be different moods, not to mention yeldurhttime scenery.
The first trailer they released was pretty Bladerunner -esque in comparison to this one, but you have to remember that this time they were at E3, so it's made to fit that audience. If you look through the actual details rather than just the "vibe" you'll see things ripe for a pretty sinister setup.
I am hopeful they learned from The Witcher 3 E3 presentation vs Witcher 3 release version and are flipping it around - ie making the trailer flashy and the game intricate and not the other way around.
Witcher 3 had some nice things and the first time you play it the pacing doesn't not help your suspension of disbelief, but if you've ever replayed it, I'm sure you've noticed all the holes, where they've went back and iterated with a different mindset than the original gameplay concept or say the story loading screens.

Just as likely I'm wrong and they are doing the other thing of using the good repute they got from the Witcher to make the game they started making mid-development and not the one envisioned in the first place though.

can confirm, the only time where you can (but don't have to) switch to third person is when driving a car

the german game magazine Gamestar was able to look into the gameplay, seems more like a deus ex or fallout-ish kind of rpg, so there's no mass effect-ish cover-system when you fight. Character editor, distribution of skill points, weapons and armor parts from normal to legendary rareness. Lots of quests with choices. Quite as big as witcher.

here's the german article

Gameplay demos / showcases with narration is always fucking annoying.

What? How the fuck was the narrator "overselling hype"? It was some pretty damn basic, and scarce, narration.

As for the demo, looks awesome. Some rough stuff still, but it's far from release. The gameplay loop looks fun, and the combat, especially when they started using the high mobility maneuvers, looked very fun for a RPG. I just hope they can make it somewhat difficult without going over the top bulletspongey.

Just the way he overexaggerated his points at the end of each great and amazing thing he was pointing out. I am not saying anything bad about the game just for me it would've been better sans the narrator. Thanks at least for not downvoting me like DynaMike did.

Anyhow so the game isn't even released yet and the narrator is claiming it to be the most believable city in any open world game to date. Rockstar might want to have a word with him I think.

Getting some Watch_dogs vibes from that video, but, then again, it is CDProject, so hopefully it will actually be that good.
